Test your implementation

Once you have installed CookieTractor on your website, you need to ensure that no cookies are set before obtaining the appropriate consent.

Private Browsing Mode

When testing cookies, always do so in a private/incognito window in your browser. This ensures that no cookies from related services "bleed through" to the ones your website actually uses. Cookies from services not directly connected to those you use, but from the same provider, might otherwise appear to belong to your website if you don't test in private mode. Private mode means that the visit to the website occurs as if it were your first time visiting.CookieTractor

It's worth noting that if you already have a private window open, there's a risk that both windows share information with each other – so make sure to close all private windows before you begin.

Steps to follow

You can use any browser, but here are instructions for reviewing cookies in Chrome:

  1. Close all open private browser windows.
  2. Open a new private window.
  3. Open the website's cookie list in DevTools or equivalent.
  4. Browse one or more pages on the website.
  5. Examine the cookie list and identify the services/providers present.
  6. Manage the cookies that are set before you have given matching consent. Find information on how to do this in the "Manage Cookies" section.
  7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 until all cookies requiring consent are managed.

Ensure that the services you condition on consent load as they should when allowed.
