Getting Started with CookieTractor
Here you'll find information on how to install CookieTractor on your website. Start by creating an account if you haven't already.
To implement CookieTractor, follow these three steps:
1. Load our JavaScript
We recommend including CookieTractor's JavaScript directly on your website. Your specific script tag is available in our tool. On the specific website; select the Installation tab and copy the contents of the Code text box. Insert the script tag on all pages of the site, as high up as possible within the <head> tag.
Correct placement of the script tag is important if you rely on CookieTractor to automatically handle videos from YouTube or Vimeo. It's also crucial if the site uses Google Consent Mode or Microsoft Consent Mode.
2. Identify your website's cookies
You need to be able to show visitors which cookies are set on your website. Under the Cookies tab in our tool, you can initiate a scan of cookies on the website (if this wasn't done when you created the account). Our crawler goes through all pages on the website and lists all set cookies. This list is for your and your visitors' reference; in the next step, we'll explain how to block cookies.
Note that our cookie list may contain more cookies than what is visible in a regular browser, as these often block certain types of cookies. There may also be missing cookies that we are unable to find, such as those set during form submissions and logins. If any cookies are missing after the scan, you can add them manually in the tool.
3. Condition cookies based on obtained consent
CookieTractor initiates Google Consent ModeCookieTractor initiates Google Consent Mode, and thus handles all Google services that implement it, such as Google Analytics 4, without configuration. Additionally, we handle YouTube embeds so that they require consent for marketing, and ensure that Vimeo does not use cookies. These services therefore do not need to be conditioned.
Other cookies that are not classified as necessary need to be conditioned. The simplest way to condition a cookie from being set is attribute-based blocking. This works for the most common scenario where <script> or <iframe> elements set cookies that require active consent.
If you use a tag manager or require more advanced techniques, you'll find documentation for this under Manage Cookies.
To ensure everything works as it should, we recommend that you test the implementation so that your cookies are set according to the correct consent.
Additional Options
If you have a more advanced website, perhaps with limited options to add our script tag – or wish to use one of our integrations with a CMS – here you'll find more information on different ways to install CookieTractor:

Once CookieTractor is functioning on the website, we recommend reviewing the articles under the Functionality & Configuration section.CookieTractor
You should add the option for visitors to reopen CookieTractor so they can adjust their consent.
On the website's privacy policy page, it's advisable to deactivate the cookie banner so that visitors can review the terms before providing consent. It's also beneficial to embed our cookie list as content on such pages.
