Common issues

Here we have gathered common questions and issues related to installing CookieTractor.

The cookie banner is not displayed

If the cookie banner is not shown, it is usually because the domain does not match the domains entered in the settings tool under the Settings tab. Make sure the exact domain is added, and also check that www is included if your website uses it, as well as any other subdomains. If you are browsing the site from a development environment, that domain must also be added for CookieTractor to work.

The cookie banner is shown on every page load

If the cookie banner appears on every page load even though consent has been given, this is most likely because our JavaScript is being loaded multiple times on the page. Make sure the script is only included in one place.

Cookie scanning does not work

If our cookie scanning function does not work, it may be because you have a firewall that blocks crawlers. In that case, you need to allow our IP address 185.21.145.55 in your firewall.

Updates to settings are not visible

Our JavaScript is cached, which means that changes to settings may take a little while before they are reflected in the cookie banner. You can manually clear the cache under the Overview tab, where you will find the Clear cache button at the bottom.

The text in the cookie banner is not visible

If the text is not visible (appears white) or is very light, it is because we inherit the text color defined for normal text on your website. If your site has a dark background and light text, this can cause the issue. Under the Design tab, you can select Dark color scheme, which provides a matching dark cookie banner. If you prefer a light cookie banner, you can check the Force Text color to Black option. You can also write custom CSS if you want a different text color.

Consents are not visible in our tool

If no consents appear in the statistics within the tool, your Content Security Policy (CSP) most likely needs to be reviewed. *.cookietractor.com must be allowed in the server’s CSP.
